Job Opportunities

Director of Lollard Street Adventure Playground.

Lollard Street Adventure Playground was one of the first adventure playgrounds in England, built in 1946 on the site of a bombed out school. Starved of funding for decades, it had fallen into disrepair before being closed by Lambeth Council due to austerity cuts in 2012.  The Kennington Association took over in 2013 and transformed this historic site, so that it is once again at the heart of our local community, bringing children and young people of diverse backgrounds and their families together. We are an oasis of children’s play where they can truly be themselves and initiate their own projects, attracting over 70 children every session.

Lollard Street Adventure Playground now not only provides free play sessions for young people aged 6-16 years, but is also a vital facility for the North Lambeth community, providing sports facilities for local schools, meeting spaces, birthday party venues and Forest School sessions plus lots more.

We are looking for the right person to oversee the whole community project. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in lives of children and young people and the wider community in the heart of Kennington. Our new Director will lead on the strategic development of the whole project into the next 5-10 years. Developing the vision, mission and values of the project and overseeing our funding strategy. Key to the role is ensuring the highest standards from staff and volunteers to enable the project to deliver on its priorities.

The right person must have an understanding of the importance of free play in children’s lives as this forms the backbone of what we do on this adventure playground. They must be able to lead a team of playworkers to continue to develop a space where free play is the focus, allowing children to initiate their own projects and take risks in their play. Experience of running successful community projects and an ability to network with other local organisations will be key to this role.

We are forward looking, ambitious and committed to continuous improvement with two new building projects planned for our site in the next year that will enable our project to expand what it can offer. If you find this role interesting and want to find out more please do contact us for an informal chat or meeting, we would love to hear from you.

While this is a, permanent position, we are committed to offering flexible working arrangements and are open to discussion regarding how this flexibility might be achieved.

Must have a current DBS and will be required to apply for a new one.
